Best Special Film Screenings in London This Week

Sometimes the biggest screen possible isn't enough. Thankfully the capital has lots to offer in the way of unique showings...

London. Vast, diverse, and always ready to surprise you, no matter what your taste. In Walloh's case our thing is cinema, of course, which means we've scouted out the capital for the most unique, interesting, and – let's face it – outright weird film screenings taking place this week. From an exclusive screening with one of the world's most acclaimed filmmakers to a Mexican-themed rooftop party, there's sure to be something here for everyone…

Sing-A-Long to Bohemian Rhapsody on a Rooftop

When? 21:00, Tuesday 7th May   How much? From £17.55   Where? Shoreditch

What is it?

Last year's Oscar-winning musical biopic Bohemian Rhapsody on a roof in Shoreditch… only this time you can sing to all the classic hits without being ushered out of the cinema.

Sounds interesting! What else?

The screening will take place on top of the Queen of Hoxton pub, which has been dressed up to look like the Mexican town of San Cristóbal. In other words: there will be tacos and tequila. Click here for tickets and more info.

Where Hands Touch + Director Q&A

When? 18.15, Wednesday 8th May   How much? From £18   Where? Mayfair

What is it?

Amma Asante (who directed the wonderful Belle) returns with her latest work, Where Hands Touch, a coming of age tale about a half-German, half-African girl in 1944 Berlin.

Sounds interesting! What else?

Director Amma Asante herself will be in attendance for a Q&A session after the film has played, which will be hosted by acclaimed journalist Melvyn Bragg. Click here for tickets and more info.

Talking High Life with Claire Denis

When? 18:10, Thursday 9th May   How much? From £25  Where? Southbank

What is it?

Claire Denis' poetic, space-set drama, High Life, will play at the BFI Southbank a day before its official release in the UK. Better yet, Denis will appear prior to the screening for a 90-minute conversation about her career and the film.

Sounds interesting! What else?

If the early buzz is anything to by, High Life – starring Juliette Binoche and Robert Pattinson – looks set to be one of the year's most acclaimed films. What's more, it's a great opportunity to get acquainted with Denis' work ahead of June's BFI season of her work. Click here for tickets and more info.

A Film About a Rave (Followed by a Rave)

When? 20:00, Thursday 9th May   How much? £17.90   Where? King's Cross

What is it?

It's the Opening Gala screening of Beats, a film about two friends who hit an illegal rave in Scotland, followed by an actual rave at nearby bar SUPERMAX. Talk about life imitating art.

Sounds interesting! What else?

Screened as part of this year's Everyman Music Film Festival, Beats is directed by Black Mirror's Brian Welsh, and produced by Steven Soderbergh of Ocean's Eleven Fame. So you can probably expect good things. Click here for tickets and more info.

What is it?
