Citadel: The Bloody Mary Festival

While I’d love to shell out the combined £400 it would cost to attend both Reading and Glastonbury Festivals this summer, it just doesn’t seem to be in the cards.  Therefore, in keeping with our efforts to bring you a piece on many of the music festivals going on in London this summer that aren’t getting national attention, this week we bring you the lowdown on one of capital’s newest addition to the circuit: Citadel Festival in Victoria Park on Sunday, July 19th.

While for many of us Sunday is the dreaded but often welcomed comedown from Friday and Saturday nights with nothing to lose, you may want to rethink that plan for at the very least this particular day of ‘rest.’

Yes, the rowdy weekend that is Lovebox is on the 17th and 18th and yes it is also in Victoria Park but this was all carefully planned, you see, as Citadel is brought to you by the same people (also responsible for bringing you Wilderness Festival August 6th-9th in Cornbury Park) as sort of a music, food and comedy driven bloody Mary to the insanity of the two days prior.

Headliners include a triple dose of both London grown and American Indie folk rockers with Ben Howard, Bombay Bicycle Club and Kurt Vile with his band, The Violators (and no, not those Violators).  Check out the Citadel lineup for a full list of musicians and DJ’s playing on the day.

One particularly impressive addition that sets Citadel apart from other festivals is Sunday Papers Live, bringing you a critique of the news by various comedians, satirists, poets and even politicians.

If you’re not into the music, comedy and politics and your head is still throbbing, enjoy a three-course Sunday feast from chef Richard Turner (Meatopia and Pitt Cue Co.)

Grab tickets from ticketmaster via Citadelfestival.com.
