Maria (Emma Suárez, star of Pedro Almodóvar’s Julieta [2016]) is a middle-aged woman living in Bilbao who gets devastating news about her health. Against the advice of her doctors and to the dismay of her son, she decides to pursue a trip to Greece with her closest friends. Chancing upon the volcanic island of Nisyros, Maria is immediately seduced by the place and the calm it instils. The presence of boat keeper Stefanos (Akilas Karazisis) is another reason she finds the island hard to leave
