The Pearl Button
2016 | 1h 22m | Documentary
A conceptual meditation on the importance of water to Chile, which boasts a 2600-mile coastline. The film looks initially to the stars, where the water originated, and explores the rich history and dark politics of the country including the relationship between the native peoples and European settlers. Archive photographs and materials bring these chapters to life including the story of a British captain, who bought one Chilean boy for a button and attempted to integrate the child into polite society.
