Louis Mazzini believes he is the rightful heir to the d'Ascoyne family estate. So he schemes to murder all eight members of the family who stand in his way of becoming the tenth Duke of Chalfont. A subsequent menage a trois involving Mazzini's childhood sweetheart Sibella and socialite Edith D'Ascoyne has far-reaching and ironic consequences for Louis, who believes that he has escaped justice for his heinous crimes.
