Gladiator
When the Roman Emperor is murdered and the death covered up to look like natural causes, the sadistic Caesar-in-waiting Commodus assumes the throne, incarcerating the one man who could possibly overthrow him - General Maximus - condemning him to the gladiator games. Just as fearsome in the arena as he is on the battlefield, Maximus soon slaughters his way to the Colosseum in Rome where his rising popularity sets him on a collision course with the increasingly unpopular Commodus.
