In October 1992, 111 unarmed inmates of Pavilion 9 at the Sao Paulo House of Detention were massacred in a frenzy of violence, which stunned Brazil and ultimately the world. Events leading up to the tragedy are seen through the eyes of a doctor, who listens to the lively and touching personal stories of the prisoners as he tends to their everyday ailments. As the medic gains the trust of the prisoners, so he is taken into their confidence.
